Background
Since the beginning of the 20th Century, the diagnosis of mental disorders has steadily increased, with the role psychological factors play in diseases receiving increasingly more attention. As a result, the transformation from a strictly biomedical model to a combined bio-, psych-, and socio-medical model has taken place. Against this background of transformations and ten years of research in brain science and human genomics, TCM has not only developed its own theory of preventing and treating physical and mental diseases, but developed many psychological therapy techniques as well. Ancient methods such as Chinese herbs, Acupuncture-Moxibustion, Qigong, Tuina, etc, are now widely incorporated within alternative medicine worldwide. Much of the international growth of TCM Psychology can be attributed to support that has been provided by the committee. The World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies Traditional Chinese Medicine Psychology Specialized Committee is one the latest platforms to emerge.
